Are You Still Confused by THC Family?

Oct 12, 2021

Are you still confused by THC family? Don't worry, today we are here to help you to clear it. As you know, many people know THC, because it can make them high with strong effects, that's the reason people call it marijuana, and banned it. However, few people know that THC also have different kinds. The famous THC that people usually say is delta9 THC.
Now, THC family has three members as Delta 8,Delta 9 and delta-10. The same part all they have is that they can make you high. The difference will be found below. Here we will talk who those three family are.

What is Delta 8?
Delta-8 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is a psychoactive substance found in the Cannabis sativa plant, and marijuana and hemp are two varieties of it. Delta-8 THC is one of over 100 cannabinoids produced naturally by the cannabis plant, however, it is not found in significant amounts in the cannabis plant. As a result, concentrated amounts of delta-8 THC are typically manufactured from hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD).

What is Delta 9?
Delta-9 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the cannabinoid most commonly associated with cannabis and marijuana. Don't confuse cannabis and hemp plants, though they do come from the same family they do have a different cannabinoid structure and potent level.THC stands for delta-9 THC. It is a cannabinoid molecule in marijuana (cannabis), and it's long been recognized as the main psychoactive ingredient. Yes, it is the substance that causes people who use marijuana to feel high.

What is delta-10?
Delta-10 THC is a cannabinoid found in trace amounts in the cannabis plant. Like regular THC—delta-9—it can get you high, but it is less potent than delta-9. This makes it similar to delta-8.Delta-10 is commonly processed from hemp-derived CBD, as is delta-8. Because hemp is legal all over the US, delta-10 is considered legal in all 50 states. However, as with delta-8, certain states have outlawed delta-10 on their own.

Delta-9 THC vs. Delta-8 THC vs. Delta-10 THC
At first glance, the structure of these three rules looks the same, except for the one line in the top-most ring. This line represents a new molecular bond and while it does not appear to visibly change the molecule, it can significantly alter its binding properties and stability.
According to David Reckles from Private Label Hemp Lab, Delta-10 can absolutely get you high. But not exactly like Delta-8 or Delta-9. Delta-9 has the most intense effect on a person's pleasure, thought process, memory, coordination and perceptions. Relatively, delta-8 has a much lower potency and users report experiencing mild levels of appetite stimulation, and relaxation. Similarly, Delta-10 also has a lower psychotropic potency. But users report very different outcomes compared to Delta-8.
In fact, because of the latter of delta-9 THC is much more stable, delta-8 THC can become delta-9 THC in storage. The 'delta-8 bond' does not prefer this position and will actually switch to the more stable delta-9 position and the molecule changes. This transition is part of the reason, another reason is a higher concentration of delta-9 THC than delta-8. Over time all of delta-8 will become delta-9. To create both versions of THC, CBD oil is first extracted from legally grown hemp. The resulting oil is processed into either delta-10 THC or delta-8 THC. Different chemicals and reactions are used to create the different deltas.
On the other hand, delta-9 only acts on the CB1 receptors; whereas, delta-8 acts on both the CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are located primarily in the nervous system, connective tissues, gonads, glands, and organs, while CB2 receptors reside primarily in the immune system and its associated structures. Many tissues contain both receptors and there are likely more waiting to be discovered. In short, the effects of delta-8 have more potential to affect more systems than delta-9.
Delta-10 THC is not easy to manufacture. It must be refined extensively, so you usually don't see it in abundance. Because it is so hard to produce, a lot of products combine delta-10 with delta-8.
On legal level, the difference among delta 8, delta 9 and delta 10 become more obvious. Due to the passing of the 2018 farm bill, products derived from industrial hemp with a cannabinoid content of under 0.3% THC are federally legal – including Delta-8-THC, effectively making it the first commercially available federally legal THC product. While delta-8-THC is specifically listed as a schedule 1 substance, it is legal under the farm bill, so long as it is produced from industrial hemp. This is done typically through a conversion process, converting CBD into delta 8. You can find out more about this process and other ways delta 8 is created in our article on how to make delta-8. Delta-9 is federally illegal. Delta-10 THC derived from cannabis is illegal due to the fact that marijuana is a schedule 1 controlled substance. However, Delta-10 derived from hemp extract exists in a legal gray zone.
